Devlog (12/30/23): Big Progress!

These past few days I've been working on the game a lot more. Like, a LOT more.

I've probably spent like 3 or 4 days straight just dedicating all my time to developing the game. (In moderation, of course.)

So, I'll briefly share what progress I've made.

Firstly, I've written a WHOLE bunch of dialog! You might wonder where this dialog is, and perhaps I'll continue to keep it a secret. Or maybe not. If you keep up with my socials then you might have an idea of what the dialog might be for. This was actually what I spent most of that time doing. Writing is a lengthy process! And, I think the stuff I have is going to be extremely fun to read. I know people don't necessarily play puzzle games to read things, but I sincerely believe the stuff I have will be so fun to read that people will deliberately be seeking out the dialog. It's great.

Secondly, I spent all of the past... Today?!?! Making good on one of my promises. Now introducing...

THE PENCILMARK FEATURE

By clicking anywhere in a room, you will be able to create a marking. This marking can be either a symbol, a number, or a written note by you! If you can type it in, the game can display it... Probably. Here's an example of me using the feature to explain 1-B.

Now I'll show off the Marking Menu. Incidentally, this was 50x harder to make than everything else related to the pencilmarks. Yes, that includes drawing them and saving/loading them. (Oh, they save and load, by the way!)

As you can see, it's not entirely finished yet. I intend to fill it out with some color presets at the bottom, including colors corresponding to all the keys (but maybe not all of them). Also, do you like that pencil sprite? I worked hard on it! As in, it took 2 minutes.

And finally, just to be thorough, this is the menu for when you would like to type in your own note. I guess I should mention that you WILL have to use keyboard and mouse for these, I'm sorry to the controller users. Your posture will never recover.

Anyways, all in all, I made a lot of progress! And, uhh... Knocking out the entirety of pencilmarks in a single day might have been just a little bit insane. Sometimes I just do things like that when I'm on a hot streak. Anyways, I hope this will serve as some more substantial proof that this game is still alive and definitely not in the development abyss. I might not have more to share for a while, so I hope longtime fans of the game will be able to eat well.

YES. YES. YES.

ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ.

Will hidden colors be unlocked as you find them in the world? Red isn't very hidden, but Brown is more hidden. I think it still got used though.

Love it!
